“SITTING ON THE PERIPHERY OF THE SAND CIRCLE, A CIRCLE FIXED AND CEMENTED WITH CHALK AND SWEAT MADE NO REAL SENSE TO SOMEONE USED TO A VELVETEEN ENCLOSURE. LOW-LIGHT MIXED WITH TUNGSTEN HELD A NICOTINE CLOUD FOUR FEET FROM HIS SWEATY BROW. NOSE DRAWN IN AND UPWARDS HE DREW IN THE AROMA OF OLD MEN AND BLACK COFFEE. WITH HIS EYES CLOSED HE TILTED HIS HEAD BACKWARDS SUBTLY DRAWING IN THE SMOKE. IMAGES OF BLACK COFFEE TURNED TO TREACLE AND THE RED VELVETEEN UPHOLSTERY OF THE GINZA RENOIR WARMED THE EDGES OF THIS INTOXICATING AIR TO WHICH HE SLOWLY SURRENDERED. A COLD HAND ON HIS WARM ARM OPENED HIS EYES AND THE BROWN EYES OF HIS COMPANION STARING BACK AT HIM BROUGHT HIS HEAD FORWARD AGAIN. SALT AND SAND THROWN FROM THE CIRLCE INTO THE AIR SPILLED ONTO HIS LAP AND INTO HIS GLASS AS IT LANDED…”

Abstract 5 (Continued… ) DISAPPEARED, REPLACED BY A MEMORIAL IN VECTORIZED LIGHT; A DAYDREAM WITH DIMENSIONS X, Y, AND Z.

                                        ”WHEN HIS EYES DRIFTED ACROSS THE APPARITION SHIFTING SLOWLY IN FRONT OF HIM, A WARM BREEZE GENTLY BLEW THE FIGURATIVE ILLUSTRATION THAT HIS CAR HAD BECOME. DUST WAS GATHERED BY THE WIND INTERSPERSED WITH CARGO CARRIED FROM FAR-A-FIELD AND BACKYARDS BEYOND. THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR, NOW AN EXTERIOR, WITNESSED AN ARABESQUE PROCESSION OF TINY CYCLONES PIROUETTE. HIS GAZE SHIFTED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT FIXING ON WHATEVER WAS TANGIBLE, WHICH WAS DIFFICULT AS HIS FOCUS HESITATED, MOVING IN THEN OUT AS THE IMAGE OF AN EDGE OR A SURFACE CONSTANTLY FOCUSED THEN BLURRED IN QUICK SUCCESSION.

HE WIPED THE WATER FROM HIS TIRED EYES AND THOUGHT ABOUT LOOKING BACK OVER THE PRECIPICE BUT HE COULDN’T MUSTER THE ENTHUSIASM. BESIDES, HE COULD HEAR VOICES, DISTANT, CARRIED BY THE WIND NOW DECORATING THE CAR’S TRANSLUCENCY. HE IMAGINED THAT THESE DISTANT VOICES WERE RENDERED IN THE DISTILLED VOLUME OF THE DRIVERS SEAT OR PASSENGERS GLOVE BOX AND THAT HIS CAR, NOW FORMED AS A SHIMMERING WARM WIND AND MEASURED THROUGH BEADED-LIGHT, WAS THE MIRROR; THE REFLECTION OF THE CONVERSATION BEYOND THE BRICK WALL HE CROUCHED BEHIND. IF HE LOOKED HARD ENOUGH HE COULD MAKE OUT THE TUPPERWARE CONTAINER THEY BOTH SHARED AS A FAINT RIPPLE. SANDWICHES, HOWEVER, WERE NOT PRESENT.”

Released today is the new album by Johann Johannsson, Fordlandia. I am really excited about being involved in this (Imaginary Blueprints). Thanks to Vaughan Oliver and Chris bigg at v23, and of course Johann.

The album, a sort of meditation on man, technology and nature, flows between Henry Ford, Aleister Crowley, Andre Breton, and Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo. Its a beautiful album dripping with images of a utopian auto-pia so go out and listen to it.

“HIS HAUNCHED FRAME HUNG BEHIND THE BRICK PRECIPICE AS HE WATCHED THE TWO OF THEM TALKING, EXCHANGING TUPPERWARES AND SHARING THE CONTENTS. HE TURNED HIS BACK TO THE BRICK WALL AND SLID DOWN UNTIL HIS KNEES CRACKED AND HE SAT ON ASPHALT. SQUINTING AGAIN HE LOOKED UP. BLUE SKY. THAT DAY’S SUNLIGHT FORMED A BEAD, DRAWING AN OUTLINE ALONG THE BONNET’S RIM. ALTHOUGH WELL HIDDEN HIMSELF HIS CAR WAS VISIBLE AND ODIOUS TO THE NAKED EYE. A SORT OF WIREFRAME DREW AND REDREW ITSELF AS THE SUN PASSED OVERHEAD. WAITING, SITTING SLUMPED WITH LEGS SPREAD AND ARMS AKIMBO, HIS STARE TRACED THE OUTLINE EXTENDING ALONG THE BONNET AND UP THE WINDSHIELD, ACROSS DOOR FRAME AND OVER WING MIRROR. THE CAR SEEMINGLY DISAPPEARED, REPLACED BY A MEMORIAL IN VECTORISED LIGHT; A DAYDREAM WITH DIMENSIONS X, Y, AND Z.”
